 About donationware

As of June, 2004, everything on this site is "donationware", which essentially means that everything on the site is free, and I'm panhandling on the web. If you get value from what you found here, I'd very much appreciate a contribution by mail or PayPal. There's never an obligation to pay for anything you find here, other than a moral obligation.

This website represents my sole source of income, and has since I was last able to find remote employment early in 2002. The content on this site represents approximately 20 work-years of effort, and as of 2004, I had earned less than two years' entry-level salary for everything I've been able to place or publish due to a series of marketing fiascos and my own lack of sales skill.

I'm not asking anyone to pay for crap. But if you feel this stuff was worth paying for, and like knowing that your money is going where it's actually needed, then believe me...you wouldn't find too many more appreciative recipients!

 How to donate

Right off the top, if you'd planned to donate less than $5, then let's call it square and move on...it's not worth your time or my expenses to deal with amounts that small, and I don't like seeing banks and large corporations chew up 2/3 or more of a small payment...I'd rather you donated your two or three bucks to a food bank or United Way.

That said, there are three ways to donate:

  • Cash by mail: It's not as risky as it sounds. Cash - paper money in particular - almost never gets lost in the mail. Canadian and US dollars and Euros are virtually universal currency.
  • Checks would be gratefully accepted only if they're drawn on Canadian financial institutions. US and overseas checks and money orders cost too much to deposit and take weeks to clear.
  • PayPal is the other option. It's fast, convenient, and cheap, but it's only cheap when transferring amounts greater than, say, $10.

Use the contact page to find out my e-mail address, which is also my PayPal payment address. If you prefer to send cash by mail, e-mail me for my mailing address.

NOTE: If you need a receipt faxed, mailed or e-mailed to you for tax purposes, please do not make a payment of less than US$10.00. It is not worth my time (or your trouble, really) to deal with a voluntary-pay registration of less than $10.00 which requires this sort of documentation. I would rather you use the software without paying or donate to a local charity than be required to provide a receipt for a very small payment.

If I've helped you, would you help me in return?
