| Model: |
2001 Surf Crate
#107 |
| Description: |
The nicest example
of this California fantasy rod released yet. It would be a shame to even
touch this thing if it wasn't for the application of Mattel's most
beautiful purple shade, my beloved plastic metalflake. The result? Well,
I can't decide...so I left one side woodgrained and the other plain purple.
Is that a reflection of my personality? Well, yes, but we don't care. |
| Level
of difficulty: |
Intermediate; deep
grooves around door frame and difficult areas behind exhaust pipes. |
| Options:
|
None. |
| Watch
for: |
Over-rubbing of this
normally-durable paint will strip it, so stick with non-acetone nail polish
remover and check your swab regularly to make sure it's not showing any
purple. As you can see from the shot at left, thick Tampo paint lodges in
the grooves around the door, and it may be impossible to tease it all out
with a sopping swab without risking stripping the edges to bare metal. The
bits behind the exhaust pipes are tricky; don't try to bend the pipe out
of the way because excessive pressure will crack the soft Zamac alloy before
you get any kind of clearance. Instead, wrap a thin bit of cotton around
the shaft of a straight pin, and wiggle it back and forth in the area behind
the pipe. |
