Postmortem

Concept

Just a dumb rock song I thought up while walking to the subway one day. I gave it a somewhat "modern rockabilly" feel, as best as I could, anyhow, and it's about as much WYSIWYG as anything I've ever written.

This song also represents something of a milestone, making this album probably the only one ever recorded that uses the word "Electrohome" in more than one song.

Execution

Bah...if only I could play guitar.

The vocal was tracked the same way as Old Time Tunes, into a cardboard megaphone, with the classic "rockabilly" slapback added with a cheap (very cheap) 8-bit, first-generation Boss digital pedal delay. The solo is predictably awful; really nothing more than a placeholder for some day when a real guitarist would do it.

The lyric is also spotty in a few places, but hell...so am I. I was just trying to be clever and arguably succeeded in outsmarting myself.

Lyrics

Watchin' TV

There'll be cars racing on the streets tonight
There'll be six point seven robberies
There'll be horny folk after some meat tonight
And I'll be home watchin' TV
There'll be drunks crawling bar to bar tonight
There'll be jocks bringin' jerks to their knees
There'll be coeds going car to car tonight
And I'll be home watchin' TV

Chorus 1:
I'm going to draw up the shades in my room
And breathe in them video fumes
Not even World War III
Could draw response from me
When I'm at home and watchin' TV

There'll be kids gettin' stoned on drugs tonight
There'll be bingo on N-43
There'll be campers gettin' eaten by bugs tonight
And I'll be home watchin' TV
There'll be a Central American coup tonight
There'll be virgins losin' virginity
There'll be freaks layin' odds on you tonight
And I'll be home watchin' TV

I'm going to rent me a windowless room
And a wide-screen color cocoon
And some stereophones
For my E-lec-tro-home
I'm going to spend my life watchin' TV

Chorus 1

There'll be young girls hoggin' the phone tonight
Drug suckers suckin' their tea
And there'll be me sittin' home alone tonight
With nobody to share my TV

There's a game on at eight o'clock tonight
There's drama on the CBC
And there's videos if I wanna rock tonight
Yes I can see it all on TV

Spoken:
So what's on the ol' tube tonight?
Oh, you want to watch Wheel of Fortune?
No dear, actually, Vanna doesn't turn me on at all.
Well didn't I tell you? I'm gay!

There's a game on at eight o'clock tonight
There's drama on the CBC
And there's videos if I wanna rock tonight
Yes I can see it all on TV
Yes I'll be home watching TV
I'm going to spend my life watching TV
