Here's
what I'm buying these days...and maybe selling, too. Need a spare set or
20 of pr5's?. The Junkyard |
Wanna sell that scrap? I never have enough premium axle sets to make all the customs I want to make, so I'm always in the market for certain types of vehicles (or, if you've already done the disassembly, wheelsets). Here's a list of the items I'm currently looking for, and approximate prices I'm willing to pay. (I'm also willing to accept the items below in trade for my custom pieces if you'd prefer to work that way.) Chances are good that you won't like my prices, since you'll probably want to keep anything I might want for precisely the same reason I want it: to use the parts on your own customs!
- Johnny Lightning's: I'll pay US$1 for nearly any Johnny Lightning vehicle whose axles/wheels are in mint condition, and I'll typically buy up to 10 copies of the same casting, but let me know what you have first. I'll buy carded JLs as well, but in most cases I'd prefer to buy the loose vehicles as they're cheaper to ship. The exceptions are any JL series which does not use at least a 2-piece wheel (e.g. the Commemorative series, which uses copies of the rather ugly-looking 1970 redline wheel). The car can be broken as long as the wheels are in mint condition. If you bought way too many closeout JLs and want to unload a bunch, here's a way to get perhaps all of your money back from a single source, because I'll buy up to 100 at one time if the styles are right. I'm also a JL collector, so I might pay as much as $3 for more desirable pieces on mint blister cards.
- Hot Wheels with "axle-through redlines" or "blackwall redlines": I also pay $1 each for "blackwall redlines" and $1.50 each for "axle-through redlines". What's the difference? It's not always easy to spot, but here's a guide you can probably figure out using items from your own collection:
- "Axle-through" redline wheels were used on the 1993 and 1994 Anniversary and Vintage series', which were reproductions of early Hot Wheels castings. These wheels are not the same as...
- "Redline blackwalls" are the redline "old-style" wheels used on many Since '68-series castings. The easy way to tell the difference is to look at the empty space between the chrome "spokes". If the space looks like a perfect square or rectangle, that wheel is a "redline blackwall". If the space looks too irregular to be called a true rectangle, it's an "axle-through redline".
- Original or reproduction redline wheels: I also need original-style wheels for restoration and recovery projects, and I sometimes buy lots of "junker" redline cars for parts. If you have too many repro wheels from a restoration project, I'll pay up to $3.50 per set for top-quality wheels, and up to a dollar each for real original wheels. Prices for the bodies attached to those wheels are negotiated separately. I do not buy "junker" redline wheels; I need some sets of used wheels but all used wheels must have at least 90 percent of the original redline stripe, only minimal wear on the chrome, and no major cuts, cracks or scratches in the wheel.
- Other wheelsets I'm looking for at present, and will pay $1 per car (or wheelset) for: none at this time; watch this page every couple of months for updates.

If you've got stock you think I'd like, write me with a description. Include a phone number and best time to call if you feel safe doing so; it often speeds up the process and makes it easier and quicker to complete the deal if I can complete the agreement by phone.
If we agree on a price for your "junk stock", I'll pay the shipping. Because of this, I rarely buy any lot that is smaller than 20-30 vehicles or axle sets unless you agree to pay part of the shipping...it just isn't worth it for me to purchase any smaller lots.
I only pay US customers with Paypal. In Canada, I can pay either by Paypal or by Interac e-mail money transfer, your choice.

I also have extra axle sets - mostly 5sp, fte, oh5 and pr5 style Mattel wheels - from time to time, which I'll sell in mixed lots of 50 axle sets for $10 per set (shipping is extra, unless it's included as part of a larger order; all shipping for my inventory is a flat $5 for any size order). Axle sets may occasionally include some better-quality Matchbox wheels (e.g. eight-spoke or "star mags"), but when you get a wheel assortment from me, all wheels are guaranteed to be in mint condition and will not include less-interesting axle sets from "no-name" diecasts, or lesser-quality "junk" axle sets pulled from things such as McDonalds Happy Meal vehicles. Don't expect any special wheels though; I use all I can get my hands on. I make no warranty of any kind on these axle sets; they could be any width, any size, and while I'll try to make sure they're all usable, there may not be complete sets of all styles. (This is why every lot of 50 axle sets is actually received as 55-60 axle sets by count.)
I do not supply anything other than assorted axle sets in 50 lots at this time.
