I was so disheartened at the poor sales of the book that I never bothered to compile a mailing list of organizations, let alone mail out this offer. If a given non-fiction subject lends itself to seminar application, or use of the author as a public speaker on the book's subject, then according to the thinking of the day, this was a failure to capitalize on the seminar/self-help market after a book's sales begin to decline is both a wasted opportunity and tantamount to deliberate sabotage against the sales of the author's next book, since these kinds of activities tend to keep the author's name in public view.

In cooperation with Living Skill Books, nationally-known author and consumer trainer Steve Winter has offered his services free of charge as a speaker for your group, organization or specific chapter.

Mr. Winter is the author of six books. Since the release of his latest book, "The Ultimate Shopper", he has been featured on radio and TV and in print across Canada discussing consumer strategy and the finer points of consumer negotiation. The enclosed brochure will outline his presentation in detail.

He is a witty, engaging speaker who appeals to all age and interest groups and he has developed a reputation with media as "Canada's consumer technician". We expect demand for appearances to be fairly heavy, so we suggest that your chapter or member groups be contacted as early as possible and bookings be made through our Toronto office at the earliest possible date. Some last-minute bookings can be accepted, and he still has openings for August and September.

We also request that bookings be made only by groups expecting an attendance of 30 or more members and guests.

Mr. Winter has requested that his motive for offering his services at no cost be made clear. Beginning next year, he expects to be touring the US extensively in support of his book, and the material to be presented will be a condensed version of a paid consumer seminar currently under development. Part of the purpose of his talks includes research and practise.

Bookings will be made on a first-come, first-served basis through December 15, 1987, and this offer is limited only to organizations and chapters meeting in the Metro Toronto area.
