An Introduction to the Sonora Model of Addiction (1 of 5)

Main menuNext section >>

You are about to glimpse the future...a future in which addiction takes on a whole new meaning for all of us, and much of what we admire and despise begins to appear very different from the way we see it now. The half-hour or so that it will take to browse this introduction could be your first glimpse into a future in which the ability to cure addiction means much, much more than just a world without addicts.

This section now includes "quick-start" introductions for those with groundings in other belief systems. Start with the quick-start that best matches what you already know, and you'll be able to skim much of the introductory material. If you don't have basic grounding in any of the following areas, be prepared to be a bit confused as you absorb the basics.

The mixed blessing of a solution to addiction

It's true...we have found the cause of addiction. And we know what it will take to cure it. Within twenty years, the suffering caused by this devastating affliction could be completely and permanently eliminated for tens of millions of people, and prevented for countless millions more.

...coincidence?

It will likely take just as long to prove to a skeptical treatment establishment that addiction has a root cause (and a cure) as it will to develop virtual-reality devices that fulfill the promise of true interactive entertainment. Curiously, the very technology that VR manufacturers will need to develop their products - technology that accurately measures nerve impulses and synaptic responses - is the exact same technology needed to prove the curability of addiction. Coincidence? You decide.

And not a moment too soon. Because today, at the dawn of the virtual-reality revolution, we stand poised on the threshold of an epidemic of addiction the likes of which we have never known.

But we can begin today, long before the first reliable cures emerge, to reduce the stigma and the suffering imposed by these conditions, and in the process, reduce the cost that addiction and compulsion impose not just on those who are afflicted, but on all of us.

An astonishing new model has emerged within just the last few years which makes once-unthinkable goals achievable. This model has already been applied in many different applications to help a fortunate few to achieve permanent relief.

In as little as twenty years...
addiction will be cured as easily, permanently and reliably as infections and broken bones
today's treatments will look primitive, ineffective, hazardous, even cruel
lifelong freedom from addiction, alcoholism and compulsion will be a reality for tens of millions
we could come to see addiction as no more serious as short-sightedness, and no more dangerous than arthritis
...but real change can begin now

Today, cure is still very hard to find and difficult to achieve. But in as little as ten years, this "miracle" could be within the reach of 90 percent of those who suffer from addictive or compulsive disorders.

You may not believe this, and in fact you may not even believe it once you understand the basic concepts of the Sonora model. As simple and sensible as the model may be, it defies a lot of what we've been led to believe about addiction and the human mind, and an understanding of its principles is likely to challenge much more than just your beliefs about addiction.

This introductory module won't answer all of your questions, but it will provide you with your first glimpse into a bright future for sufferers from the costliest affliction in human history, and give you a sense of the challenges we face in making cure a reality for the tens of millions who need it.

But even at this early date, this is a complete model. Elsewhere on this site you'll find a wealth of information that should answer virtually every question you may have about this model and how it works.
